In China, applying to college is about one thing and one thing only: the gaokao. Gaokao is short for “The National Higher Education Entrance Examination”.
A total of 9.4 million students sat China's annual college entrance exam, or "gaokao," on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The fall in the number of students taking the gaokao will force some colleges and universities to find novel recruitment methods if they want to enroll enough students, education experts have warned.
