Jailed Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday (Dec 14) lost his final bid for freedom when a federal court rejected his appeal to set aside his sodomy conviction and five-year jail term.
The Malaysian government rejected a call by a United Nations group on Monday to free Anwar Ibrahim, a former opposition leader who was jailed for sodomy, saying the verdict was made by an independent judiciary system.
The United States said on Tuesday it is "deeply disappointed" by the decision of Malaysia's highest court to upheld a guilty verdict against opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.
Malaysia's Federal Court will deliver its verdict on the final appeal of the opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim Tuesday morning.
