UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon on Sunday strongly condemned the killing of a peacekeeper during renewed clashes between government forces and rebels in the eastern part of Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
A UN peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has been put on stand-by to protect civilians in the eastern province of North Kivu amid renewed conflicts in the region, a spokesperson said here Thursday.
State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland called M23's renewed military campaign "an affront to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the DRC and in violation of international law."
