Brazilian President Michel Temer signed on Wednesday a loan of 102 million reais (32 million US dollars) for the federal police to resume issuing new passports after the procedure was suspended in late June due to lack of funds.
Around the world it is normal practice to apply for and receive a passport within days if not weeks, but in militancy-hit Afghanistan applying for a passport took one applicant months to receive the document and travel overseas.
The international police agency Interpol on Sunday confirmed that at least two passports recorded in its Stolen and Lost Travel Documents (SLTD) database were used by passengers on board missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH 370.
