At least 12 people have been rescued after a five-storied building collapsed in the northeast of Nairobi, the Kenya capital, on Sunday night.

Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) and first aid charity, St. John Ambulance, which are coordinating the rescue operation, said so far 12 people have been rescued and an unknown number are feared trapped in the debris after three floors of the building carved in.

"At least 12 people have been rescued. Multi-agency search and rescue operations are ongoing," said St. John Ambulance spokesman Fred Majiwa.

KRCS said it has set up an information desk to help in the tracing recovery for cases of missing families and loved ones.

The building is in Casanova in Huruma Estate, a residential estate located in the northeast of Nairobi.
