Vandals painted a COVID-19 face mask on The Long Man of Wilmington this week.The 235-foot monument carved in chalk is protected by law as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.Archeologists date the monument to the medieval period.Sussex police are searching for the persons responsible for the crime.

The Long Man of Wilmington is protected by law as a Scheduled Ancient Monument for its historical significance.Even if it was in good humor, police say damaging the monument is a crime.
