Syria’s opposition delegation says gov't ‘refusing’ to engage in talks

Nasr al-Hariri, head of the Syrian opposition delegation in the Geneva peace talks, said on Wednesday that President Bashar al-Assad's government “refused” to engage in political discussions.

Al-Hariri emphasized that his delegation was providing ideas for the political transition and process in Syria. He also accused the United Nations of not upholding its responsibilities.

The peace talks in Geneva entered the third day with no remarkable progress achieved. However, there was finally a glimpse of hope that the various opposition groups may come together as one united voice, which requires more discussions among the groups to come up with one vision going forward.

If the opposition groups can agree with each other over their demands, it may lead to direct talks between the Syrian government and the main opposition groups. But so far, few are hopeful of such an outcome.
