The Chinese mainland is highly concerned by the strong earthquakes that jolted the Taiwan region over the weekend, Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said on Sunday.

The Chinese mainland expressed condolences to the families of the victims and sympathies to the injured, she said. "We hope people in the affected area will resume normal order of production and life as soon as possible."
