A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Thursday slammed the annual human rights reports issued by the U.S. State Department, saying the contents on press exchange between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan were completely made up and constituted a malicious libel.

Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said the lies in the so-called "2019 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices" run counter to basic facts and common sense, exposing political bias and the ulterior motives of some U.S. politicians.

The mainland has been actively supporting press exchange and cooperation across the Taiwan Strait and facilitating Taiwan journalists' work on the mainland, and will continue to do so, Zhu said.
