The park city development concept was first put forward in Chengdu in February 2018. It caters to people's need for a better living experience and is a people-centered concept that takes the form of an improved natural environment in all aspects, rather than simply adding more parks and gardens to the city, said local officials.
Xindu has been striving to reshape itself under the park city concept in recent years. 967 hectares of parks and green spaces have been newly constructed in the district, and 225 kilometers of greenways have been built.

The district also carried out innovative explorations to make the parks, green spaces and greenways become places where people can participate in diverse outdoor activities and feel greater happiness. The cultural, sports, tourism, commerce, and agricultural industries are introduced into the ecological spaces, nurturing a variety of new economic models.
The Tianfu Hot-pot Town, which used to be a wasteland with polluted fish ponds near Chengdu’s Ring Expressway, has been transformed into a top destination for food and leisure, as the local government tackled the water pollution and planted grass, bushes, and trees around the ponds, and then brought in restaurants, music performances, sports and leisure.

The Nibatuo Forest Park, which preserves the traditional life scenes of Xindu, has become one of the urban public spaces most loved by Xindu citizens. With total planned area of 200 hectares, the park will also be home to a number of modern cultural facilities, including a theater, a culture house, a museum, an art gallery, and a library, making it a cultural and art center in the north of Chengdu.
Under the park city concept, Xindu will explore a new model of urban development which gives priority to ecology, said local officials. It will continue to improve the ecological layout, and promote sustainable development through the creative transformation of ecological value.
Local officials said the district will adopt the EOD (ecology-oriented development) model in urban development. It will also continue to implement the TOD (transit-oriented development) model, to build a traffic system that integrates metro, buses and bicycles.
