Commemorative Event Marking the 140th Anniversary of Shao Piaoping’s Birth Held in Hangzhou

        APD Zhejiang News — Zhejiang University hosted a special commemorative event on October 10 to mark the 140th birth anniversary of Shao Piaoping, co-sponsored by the Zhejiang Journalists Association and the Publicity Department of the Jinhua Municipal Party Committee.

        A trailblazer of modern Chinese journalism, Shao Piaoping is remembered for his dedication to the country’s press undertakings. During the ceremony, the Piaoping Spirit Memorial Hall was officially unveiled at the university’s College of Media and International Culture. The venue features a comprehensive exhibition documenting Shao Piaoping’s lifelong devotion to journalism and patriotic pursuits.

        Shao Cheng, grandson of Shao Piaoping, attended the event and shared his sentiments. “As a family member, I feel deeply honored. Hangzhou can also be regarded as my grandfather’s hometown. It was at Zhejiang University that he forged his noble aspiration of salvaging the nation through journalism.”

        The event gathered journalism experts from across the country and winners of the Zhejiang Piaoping Award. Participants delivered keynote speeches and joined roundtable discussions on the contemporary significance of the Piaoping Spirit, as well as effective ways for journalists to practice the industry’s core “Four Capabilities” in the new era.

        Zhao Yu, Party Secretary and Vice Dean of the College of Media and International Culture, pointed out that Shao Piaoping stands as a towering figure in modern Chinese journalism and an exemplary spiritual icon of Zhejiang University within the Communist Party of China’s spiritual heritage system.

        “The university is committed to inheriting and advancing the Piaoping Spirit by integrating it into professional journalism training and practical teaching. We aim to inspire successive generations of journalism students to carry forward his legacy and break new ground in the media industry,” Zhao noted.

        On the Zijingang Campus of Zhejiang University, Jinhua Foreign Language School was officially conferred the title of “Piaoping Spirit Inheritance Education Base”. Shao Cheng pledged full support for integrating the Piaoping Spirit into campus education and classroom teaching. He expressed his willingness to continuously empower local revolutionary education efforts and ensure the enduring red spirit is passed down through generations.
