U.S. television network CBS fires VP for comments on Las Vegas shooting

U.S. television network CBS has dismissed a company executive for criticizing some victims of the Las Vegas mass shooting as “ Republican gun toters ” who did not deserve sympathy, various media reported Tuesday.
Hayley Geftman-Gold, who was a vice president and senior legal counsel at the network, wrote on Facebook that she didn’t sympathize with some victims because “country music fans often are Republican gun-toters.”
She made the comments in the aftermath of the Las Vegas shooting, the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, with at least 59 people killed and more than 500 injured.
The incident occurred at the end of a three-day country music festival held over the weekend.
The network said Geftman-Gold had violated the company’s standards by expressing “deeply unacceptable” views, the Washington Post reported.
