Turkey refutes report of arms delivery to Syria

A senior Turkish official denied a report that 400 tons of arms had been sent to Syria from Turkey, Turkish Daily News reported Sunday.
“This claim is definitely not true,” the official told reporters under condition of anonymity, adding that Turkey is not involved in alleged arms deliveries to the Syrian rebels.
The media report said 20 trailers of arms crossed from Turkey and were distributed to depots in northern Syria.
The report, which came after a suspected chemical weapons strike on rebellious suburbs of Damascus, was confirmed by a senior official in the Gulf- and Western-backed Supreme Military Council, an umbrella group of Syrian rebel units.
On Wednesday, some activists asserted the Syrian government forces used chemical weapons in Damascus’ eastern suburbs, killing at least 1,300 people. Turkish government urged the UN-led mission in Syria to probe the claim as soon as possible.
