NEW DELHI, June 22 (APD)— After weeks of high temperature in Delhi, finally the residents got a respite as it rained heavily, lowering down the temperature on Wednesday.
The recorded minimum temperature was 24 degrees Celsius, which was significantly lower than the temperature before the rain.
“The sky will remain generally cloudy. There is possibility of thunderstorm with rain,” an official from the Indian Meteorological Department informed.
In the past few days the city has received more than 16.6 mm rain. The maximum temperature is said to be around 35 degrees Celsius and humidity about 95 per cent.
Earlier the Northern provinces of Rajasthan, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh were witnessing a harsh heat wave. However the temperature has reduced now, though the monsoon is yet to come.
Meanwhile the Meteorological Department has informed that the southwest monsoon is yet to “reach a break phase and still remains in active phase.”
Sudevan, southern regional director at the department informed, “Normally, by this time, monsoon would have moved from active phase to break phase.”
The Meteorological Department has also warned of strong winds occasionally reaching 45-55 kmph from the western part, particularly around the provinces of Kerala and over the island of Lakshadweep.
On Wednesday, rain was observed in most places in Kerala and Lakshadweep as well.
