The Western Sichuan Gas Field, developed by Sinopec's Southwest China Petroleum Bureau, has obtained a new high-yield well, according to the bureau.
The Pengzhou 6-3D Well, the first ultra-deep and long horizontal well in the Western Sichuan Gas Field, has achieved a daily output of 739,800 cubic meters of natural gas under a stable pressure of 30.95 megapascals.
The structure of the gas reservoir in the Western Sichuan Gas Field is ultra-deep and quite complex, making drilling and construction extremely difficult, according to officials at the Southwest China Petroleum Bureau.

To ensure the drilling project progresses safely and smoothly, the bureau established a platform joint supervision team and a technical support team together with Southwest Petroleum Engineering Co Ltd, Sinopec, and then developed a series of techniques and technologies for drilling and the construction of ultra-deep and long horizontal wells.
The Pengzhou 6-3D Well has a depth of 7,456 meters and a horizontal length of 1,442 meters, serving as a reference for the building of five similar wells.
The average design depth of the six wells in the second batch of the Western Sichuan Gas Field is 7,790 meters, and the average horizontal length is 1,548 meters. In addition to the Pengzhou 6-3D well, four other wells have finished drilling, and one was drilled to a depth of 6,075 meters.

The Western Sichuan Gas Field is located on the western edge of the Chengdu Plain, covering an area of about 139 square kilometers. The gas field's proven natural gas reserves exceed 100 billion cubic meters, with the main reservoir buried at a depth of about 5,700-6,200 meters.
As an important part of a 100-billion-cubic-meter national natural gas production base, the Western Sichuan Gas Field is scheduled to be fully completed and put into production in September 2023, with an annual output of 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
