The 10th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF) opened in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Thursday, under the theme of “Promoting Quality and Sustainable Development of International Infrastructure”.

The two-day event is jointly organized by the China International Contractors Association and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, with more than 750 organizations and over 50 government minister-level officials from near 40 countries and regions taking part, according to the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM).

Chui Sai On, chief executive of the Macao SAR, Wang Bingnan, vice minister of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, and Vincent Mwale, Zambia’s Local Government Minister attended the opening ceremony of the forum on Thursday morning.

Also at the ceremony, the Belt and Road Infrastructure Development Index (2019) and the Report on the Belt and Road Infrastructure Development Index (2019) were released by Chairman Fang Qiuchen.

The event provides an exchange platform for the international infrastructure sector, and promotes Macao's role as a platform of commercial and trade cooperation service between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, organizers said.

It would also allow Macao to give full play to its institutional, geographic and cultural strengths, while enhancing its competitiveness and participation in infrastructure collaboration with the countries and regions participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.

It is reported that this year’s IIICF has arranged 36 penal sessions and thematic forums, and 12 parallel forums will be held on Friday.
