Georges Vandenbeusch was kidnapped in the Nguetchewe parish, near Koza, in the extreme north of Cameroon, 30 kilometers to the border with Nigeria, French foreign ministry said in a statement.

"Investigations are under way in order to verify the situation and to identify the kidnappers," the statement said.

On Feb. 19, seven French tourists were kidnapped in the area of Dabanga in northern Cameroon near the border with Nigeria. Two months later, the seven French hostages were safely handed over to the Cameroonian authorities.
