BANGKOK, May 16 (APD) -- The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Tuesday launched a blogger contest to showcase travelers' unique Thai experiences online, a way to breathe new life to Thailand's touted "discover Thainess" campaign.

The contest, under the theme “Uniquely Local, Uniquely Thai”, opens to bloggers from around the world to share their ideas about what makes Thailand unique.

Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor said, “Wherever you travel, tourists make connections with the Thai people, help to celebrate our festivals and vibrant culture, and enjoy tailor made experiences. In this competition, avid bloggers can weave these experiences into exciting Thailand travel articles or videos that will inspire and entertain their followers while showing the world Thailand has so much to offer.”

The contest, lasting from May 15 to June 15, welcomes international bloggers with active online blogs and a substantial number of followers. They are required to write a blog accompanied by pic-tures, or upload a video blog that tells about what they are inspired by the kingdom.

The six most outstanding entries will win free trip to Thailand inclusive of return airfare and a five-day itinerary to explore Bangkok and the Northeastern Region, which was recently named by CNN as one of the top 17 places to visit this year.

Thailand has made efforts to diversify its tourism propaganda, especially in recent years when the country's tourism shoots up.

Influential bloggers with active social media presence are frequently invited to events held by the TAT, such as the Lady's Journey in last August and the Chinese Fans meeting with the Thai superstar Mario Maurer. Blogger marketing has been an effective way to help attract tourists from all over the world.
