UK opposition leader criticizes public services over London Tower fire

Britain’s opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn said London’s public services were ill-equipped to deal with last week’s Grenfell Tower fire, which left at least 58 people dead.

"Sadly the performance of the local authority and the performance of public services altogether is inadequate because they've been so cut and decimated over the past seven years,” Corbyn said, “There has to be an immediate focus and the prime minister has now agreed to five million pounds, I doubt that's sufficient. Everyone of those families must be housed straight away."

The head of the Kensington and Chelsea council later took issue with Corbyn's comment, contending that their work had been "effective".

Police have released three photos from inside the charred building. Experts believe the building's exterior cladding helped spread the flames quickly along the outside of the tower. It's said the cladding material may be banned under UK building regulations. The government is now inspecting about 2,500 such tower blocks across the country.
