Japan's transport ministry on Sunday evening requested domestic airlines avoid using Boeing 777 planes with Pratt Whitney 4000 engines until further notice following an accident in the United States involving the same model.

A United Airlines flight, with 231 passengers and 10 crew on board, landed safely at Denver International Airport on Saturday after its right engine failedshortly after takeoff. The Boeing 777-200 plane was powered by twoPW4000engines.
