A bushfire burning near the town of Dwellingup in Western Australia's south west has been contained but not controlled, the state's Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) said on Monday.

The fire was reported just before noon on Monday, and has burnt through 15 hectares.

The cause of the blaze is believed to be a burn on private land between the Pinjarra Williams Road and Davis Road in the Shire of Murray.

Thirty firefighters are on the scene, using a front-end loader, a bulldozer and water bombers to battle the fire.

Pinjara Williams Road is closed to traffic.

"The bushfire is moving slowly in a south-westerly direction," the DFES said in a bushfire advice warning.

"It is contained and not controlled."
