French President Emmanuel Macron left Paris for the Lebanese capital of Beirut on Thursday as world leaders offered support to the city devastated by massive blasts, local media reported.

Macron will meet Lebanese President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister Hassan Diab during the visit, the Elysee Palace was quoted as saying.

France has prepared to send three planes with search and rescue personnel and medical equipment to Beirut after twin explosions rocked the city, leaving at least 135 people dead and 5,000 others injured.

The disaster has attracted worldwide sympathy and support, with aid flowing to Lebanon from the international community.
