Chinese experts share industrial experience with Pakistani investors

ISLAMABAD, Oct. 18 (APD) -- The Chinese investment experts are prioritizing to share their experience of industrial development and management of Industrial Parks with Pakistan’s local sectors to equip them with best international practices.

Du Zhenli, Director General of Department of Global Cooperation, China International Engineering Consulting Corporation (CIECC), addresses a training workshop to share knowledge on industrial zones in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad on Oct. 16, 2017.

“Pakistan has huge potential for industrial growth and after the completion of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Special Economic Zones would provide facilities and bring foreign investment for industrial and economic growth”, Du Zhenli, Director General, Department of Global Cooperation, China International Engineering Consulting Corporation (CIECC), told Pakistani media on Tuesday.

Du Zhenli, who is leading a seven-member Chinese investment expert’s delegation in Pakistan, said that the CIECC has extensive experience in building Industrial parks in China and other Countries, and now “we are here to conduct training and workshops to share our experiences in the context of Industrial Zones under the CPEC”.

The CIECC held the first workshop of this series in Pakistan’s southern port city of Karachi on Oct. 12 where a detailed briefing highlighted the successful models of Economic Zones in China.

Du Zhenli said that the CIECC is a state-owned consulting firm that will carry the final recommendations from its meetings in Pakistan back to the National Development Reform Commission (NDRC) in Beijing.

“It is very important to know the vision and situation of Pakistan and their requirements,” he said, emphasizing on that the different industries have different requirements and each zone “must follow its own path”.

The delegation of Chinese experts also visited Dhabeji Special Economic Zone in the country’s southern Sindh province. This economic zone is high on the agenda of Pakistan and China to make it part of the multi-billion dollar China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and it has already received an overwhelming response from the potential foreign and local investors.

Du said the zone to be developed over an area of 1,000 acres having strategic importance of close of Seaport, Airport and Road and Rail Network.

Du Zhenli said the visit of Chinese experts is significant as they would ascertain its potential for becoming Priority Special Economic Zone and Chinese are investing 62 billion U.S. dollars in CPEC infrastructure and power.

Azher Ali Choudhry, Secretary Board of Investment (BoI) of Pakistan, said that the establishment of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) under CPEC framework based on Chinese experience coupled with an active involvement of private sector will attract both local and foreign investors throughout Pakistan.

The delegation is also visiting Pakistan’s other cities, including Shiekhupura and Faisalabad, Lahore, and Peshawar for holding workshops to guide the local investors about the Economic Zones.
