Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held a phone call with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian on Tuesday to discuss joint efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.

"The call addressed international efforts to fight the novel coronavirus pandemic and ways to coordinate efforts in this regard at the bilateral and international levels," said Egyptian Foreign Ministry's spokesman Ahmed Hafez in a statement.

They discussed ways of cooperation and coordination between Egypt and France on other regional and international issues of mutual concern, he added.

Until Monday night, Egypt has confirmed 3,333 coronavirus cases including 250 deaths, while France, the fourth country worldwide in terms of total infections and deaths, recorded more than 155,000 cases with a death toll surpassing 20,000.

In early April, Egyptian and French leaders attended a mini-summit via video conference with several African counterparts to discuss efforts to fight COVID-19 pandemic in Africa.
