Indonesia praises huge success of Chinese movie filmed in Manado

JAKARTA, Jan. 18 (APD) – Indonesia praised the success of Chinese movie ‘Predecessor 3: Goodbye Former’ whose part of its scenes have explored Indonesian destinations in North Sulawesi province.

The success of the movie in China’s cinemas at present was highly expected to further attract Chinese tourist to the province’s capital of Manado and surrounding areas which were popular for their world-class diving spots.

“With the great positive response on the Predecessor 3 movie we believe there will be more and more Chinese tourists come to Manado,” Indonesia Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said recently.

The movie starred by talented actors Han Geng and Zheng Kai has become a box office in China’s cinemas currently, earned 1.4 billion RMB, expected to surge up to 1.8 billion RMB in the near future, reports said.

Many scenes in the movie have explored prominent destinations around Manado, among others the huge Blessing Jesus statue, city landscapes as well as beautiful undersea sceneries in popular diving spot of Bunaken.

“It was extraordinary and gladdening that the Chinese movie filmed here has assumed a box office in China. The movie was well-packaged with exotic views in various locations here,” Head of North Sulawesi provincial tourism office Daniel Mawengkang said in a statement.

Manado saw drastic surge of foreign tourists arrivals with more than 100 thousand ones were recorded last year, most of them were from China.

That figure was more than double than it was in a year earlier at 40,000 ones, according data released by the tourism ministry.

Manado was served with international airport facilitating direct flights to 8 Chinese cities as well as to other international cities.
