Sergio Aguero has been ruled out of Argentina's final 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Ecuador due to a fractured rib.
The 29-year-old Manchester City striker suffered the injury when a taxi in which he was travelling crashed into a pole in Amsterdam on Thursday night.
It is understood he was in the Dutch capital to attend a concert of Colombian singer Maluma on his day off.
"I broke my rib, now I'm resting," the striker told Argentina's Radio Metro. "It hurts me badly. Hopefully I' ll be discharged soon."
Aguero is expected to miss up to a month, ruling him out of Argentina's home fixture against Peru on October 5 and a visit to Ecuador five days later.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said he had no problem with Aguero being in another country two days before the club's Premier League match against reigning champions Chelsea.
"I think days off are to be happy," Guardiola told reporters. "I want the players to be happy. Always I am a manager who doesn't like to train every day.
"I think the players have to rest mentally and physically. They can enjoy their lives. I want my players to have fun. If they decide to go there, they decide to go there. It is OK for me."
Argentina are currently fifth in South America's CONMEBOL standings with 24 points from 16 matches.
Only the top four teams in the group will earn an automatic berth at football's showpiece tournament in Russia while the fifth-ranked side will advance to a playoff against New Zealand.
