China food price under pressure on New Year

As the New Year holiday comes, China's commodity price, especially food price, is under great pressure due to surging consumer demand.

According to Zhang Yongjun, a senior researcher with China Center for International Economic Exchanges, the commodity price is very likely to rise during the New Year holiday.

SOUNDBITE(CHINESE) ZHANG YONGJUN, Senior researcher with CCIEE:

"Considering seasonal factors, the combined effects of the New Year and the temperature drop this winter will drive up food price."

Zhang adds that China's CPI is expected to see notable rise on a month-on-month basis, while the year-on-year CPI growth is likely to remain stable.

Thus, experts suggest the government keep a close eye on commodity price change...

Taking measures including enriching sources of supply, maintaining logistics efficiency, and using reserve commodities when necessary.
