Chiefs for three new joint defence commands were recently appointed in Indonesia.

Three-star generals will head the commands, called Kogabwilhan in native language.

The commands have been designed to facilitate “flexible and quick” deployment in security situations.

Naval, air and army assets will be present in each command and guard western, central and eastern parts of the country.

The command guarding the western part of the country is located in Tanjung Pinang in the Riau Islands. It is the closest to Singapore.
