2017 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show — An Angel Goes Down

The 2017 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show made its debut in Shanghai on Monday evening.

A terrible thing happened, Chinese model Ming Xi took a tumble while walking the runway.

Ming was wearing a pair of stilettos which got entangled with her long cape. After the accident, Ming tidied her hair and elaborate floral headpiece and got back on her feet in seconds. She got a round of applause when she finished with graceful smile.

It was also impressive that model Gizele helped Ming up, and she waited for Ming to hit her end of runway pose.

This accident sparked discussions on China's Twitter-like Weibo. There were jeers and booing from interest users. They criticized that Ming’s recovery was unprofessional and her awful instant reaction hampered her rest of models’ performance.

TMZ，an American entertainment news website, strongly criticized that “The spotlight was, stolen by Ming Xi who went down like a sack of wet cement on the runway.”

But there were some positive news reports. “She recovered with the grace of a true angel. She was helped up by fellow model Gizele Oliveira and went on to finish her walk with style. Oliveira cheered her on from behind.” said Elle Magazine.

Edward Razek, chief marketing officer of Victoria’ Secret, expressed his opinions, “There is no shame in falling, but there is great triumph in rising and finishing the journey.”

It was the first time the American lingerie brand brought its annual show to an Asian city Thousands of honored guests who were invited, in black tux and evening dress, were present at the show. Wang Sicong, son of former China's the richest man, also attended the show. But he had to stand for 40 minutes - there were no seats left.

Divided into six parts, the show featured 55 supermodels in 87 looks.

Seven Chinese models walked in this year’s fashion show. Apart from familiar faces like Liu Wen, He Sui and Ming Xi, others were new blood. One of the Chinese models, Xie xin, has already walked the Miu Miu Resort 2016 show.
