Self-Defense Forces members and others are still searching for seven people missing in Fukuoka Prefecture after torrential rain devastated northern Kyushu earlier in the month.

Thirty-four people in Fukuoka and Oita prefectures died in the disaster.

On July 19, two weeks after the start of the deadly deluge, rescue workers offered silent prayers for the victims here at 9 a.m.

Meanwhile, the Fukuoka prefectural government has started to construct temporary housing in Asakura and Toho in the prefecture. Fifty-seven units are under construction.

Evacuees are expected to be able to move into the facilities on Aug. 19 or later.
