Mayor of London Sadiq Khan expressed his grief and anger early on Sunday morning local time in the wake of the London Bridge attack, calling the terrorists "evil cowards."
"I'm appalled and furious that these cowardly terrorists deliberately targeted innocent Londoners and visitors enjoying their Saturday night. I condemn unequivocally these terrorists in the strongest possible terms. They are evil cowards and London will never be cowed. We will never let them win."
The London Bridge attack on late Saturday night was the third major hit on London in less than three months. Six people died in addition to the three attackers. Forty-eight people were injured, several severely. The attack increased pressure on the British security services and politicians, with the country's general election scheduled to take place on June 8.
Khan praised the swift response of London's Metropolitan Police, and asked the public to remain calm and vigilant while continuing with their normal business.
He added that the terror threat level remains at severe, and an increased police presence will be seen in the following days. "It is important to do all we can to ensure we are safe," he said.
"Awful news from London tonight," tweeted Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron also expressed their support to the UK.
