Iran not to shut down underground enrichment site: official

Iran will not shut down its underground bunker of Fordow uranium enrichment facilities, Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Ali-Akbar Salehi said Wednesday.

Salehi strongly rejected western media reports that he discussed on closing down Fordow nuclear site, used for high-grade enrichment activities, during the recent annual meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), official IRNA news agency reported.

Western reports also said that Iran has developed proposals to the powers in the upcoming nuclear talks, including a limit in its enrichment activities, in return for lifting significant portion of the western sanctions against Tehran.

On Wednesday, Salehi said the atmosphere of the latest session of the IAEA on Iran's nuclear issue was much more constructive than the previous ones.

Iran and the IAEA will meet for the 11th round of talks on Sept. 27 in Vienna, aiming at striking a deal on a "structured approach" toward a nuclear inspection framework

The results of the IAEA talks will serve as a pretext for the imminent meeting between Iran and the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China plus Germany, known as P5+1.
