China's Ministry of Public Security has promised to ensure a peaceful Spring Festival, characterized by family gatherings, feasts and performances.

The ministry has stepped up public security measures with the help of technology.

In Hainan Province, a tropical island at the southern tip of China and tourist destination, public security offices at all levels have strengthened fire safety checks in hotels, tourist resorts, shopping malls, residential areas, and others.

Police in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region set up service stations in major traffic arteries to provide guidance, services and maintenance for holiday travelers.

The ministry also asked the public to look after their personal belonging and beware of theft during Spring Festival holiday, which lasts from Feb. 15 to 21.
