(THE STAR ONLINE) There will not be an official memorial service on the second anniversary of MH370’s disappearance, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

A memorial ceremony will be held instead when parliament sits on March 8 – just like last year.

“We will request the (Dewan Rakyat) Speaker to give a memorial speech, to remember the tragic incident,” Liow told reporters after attending a ground-breaking ceremony at Chong Hwa Independent High School yesterday.

Responding to a question on whether the search for the plane wreckage would continue if it was not found by June this year, Liow said the final decision will be made during a tripartite meeting among Malaysia, China and Australia on the matter.

“Once the 128,000sqkm search for the plane ends, we will study what is the next step to take,” he said.

The Beijing-bound Flight MH370, carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members, left Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 12.41am on March 8, 2014, and disappeared from radar screens an hour later while over the South China Sea.

A plane flaperon was found off the French Reunion Island last July and on Aug 6, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak confirmed it was a part of MH370.
