Tokyo stocks inch down in morning after yuan's devaluation

Tokyo stocks fell 1.09 percent in the morning session of Wednesday after the central bank of China's surprise steep devaluation of the yuan the previous day.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 225.35 points, from Tuesday to end the morning at 20,495.40. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 16.71 points, or 0.99 percent, to 1,670.89.

Decliners were led by mining, iron and steel and nonferrous metal issues.
