Maldives President to undertake state visit to China

MALE, Dec. 5 (APD) – Maldives President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim will undertake a state visit to the People’s Republic of China from the 6th to the 9th of this month, at the invitation of the President of China, Xi Jinping.

The Maldives President’s office said that high-level discussions with top government officials and stakeholders of China will take place during the visit, and a number of agreements on bilateral cooperation will be signed.

The Maldives and China have a long-standing history of close and friendly ties, and this year marks 45 strong years of diplomatic relations.

The visit is expected to further solidify the existing win-win partnership for the common benefit of both countries and peoples.

This is the first state visit of Yameen to China as President of the Maldives. The President previously undertook two official visits to China, in 2015 and in 2014.
