South Korea says it has no plans to make changes to the deployment of the controversial THAAD missile defense system, Yonhap reported Friday citing a senior security adviser to South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

"Our government plans to deal with the THAAD deployment with a few principles while being fully aware of the DPRK's nuclear and missile threats," said Chung Eui-yong, head of the presidential National Security Office.

"First of all, the government has no intention to fundamentally change what it has promised under the Korea-US alliance," he added.

South Korea's presidential office said on Wednesday that the deployment of the THAAD missile system should be suspended, accusing the defense ministry of trying to keep the planned introduction of further THAAD launchers under wraps and ordering an environmental impact assessment into the system.
