S.Koreans spend more time on phone than eating

S.Koreans spend an average of two hours and 23 minutes a day on their smartphones, longer than one hour and 56 minutes they spend on meals.

Cheil Worldwide analyzed over 200 million records of over 70,000 smartphone apps of 4,442 users across the country from Aug. 14 to Sept. 13.

Users spent more time playing alone than communicating with others on the phone. On average, 52 minutes were spent on playing games, watching video clips, listening to music, and reading web cartoons, while 50 minutes were used to communicate on messenger and social networks.

The older the user, the shorter the time spent on the phone. Teens spent the longest with an average of two hours and 50 minutes, and people over 50 spent one hour and 28 minutes.

Entertainment apps were most popular with teens with 26.1 percent, and messenger apps were the favorites of those in their 20s with 28.3 percent.

Among people in their 40s, portal site apps for news and information ranked top with 26.5 percent.

Users in their 30s spent the longest time paying games with an average of 40 minutes, followed by 32 minutes for those in their 20s, and 27 minutes for teens, apparently because online games now cost money.
