Daniel Vettori, the former New Zealand cricketer, has been appointed as chief coach of Rajshahi Kings for the upcoming season of Bangladesh Premier League, the franchise announced on Thursday (March 1).

The stint with Kings will be Vettori's fourth association with a T20 team in the role of a coach, with the left-armer being part of the coaching setup for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League and Middlesex in the T20 Blast.

Royal Challengers Bangalore finishing as runners-up in the 2016 edition of the IPL has been the best result for Vettori as coach of a T20 team. Under Vettori, Middlesex qualified for the quarterfinals of the T20 Blast in 2016 for the first time since their title victory in 2008. Brisbane Heat also made it to the semi-final in the 2016-17 season under Vettori - their best finish since clinching the trophy in 2012-13.

Rajshahi Kings will be hoping that Vettori's expertise can lift the fortunes of a side that is yet to win a title. While they finished second best in the 2016 edition, they had a disappointing 2017 season as they ended up as the second team from the bottom with only four wins in 12 games.
