A Chinese mainland spokesperson Friday slammed the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority's suppression of news organizations and journalists from the mainland, calling such moves "insolent and unreasonable."

These acts expose the DPP authority's hypocrisy in their so-called "freedom of press," Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said when asked to comment on the DPP authority's recent move to scrap the press cards and entry permits of two journalists from the mainland.

With their objective and fair reporting, journalists from the mainland have long been contributing to better mutual understanding and closer bonds between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, Zhu said.

The legitimate rights and interests of mainland journalists should be protected and their reporting work in the island should be respected, Zhu said.

However, the DPP authority, having been imposing multiple restrictions on and obstructing cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation for some time, is now targeting the normal reporting work of mainland media, thus seriously harming the rights and interests of mainland journalists, the spokesperson said.

She urged the DPP authority to immediately stop such unreasonable wrongdoings, warning that otherwise it has to bear any consequence arising therefrom.
