A series of landslides has buried six vehicles and trapped an unknown number of people on highways in southern China as of Monday, said local authorities.

As of 4 p.m. Monday, landslides have affected more than ten sites on sections of highway in Guiping City, which is under the administration of Guigang City in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, said the city's traffic police department.

According to a report received by local firefighters at 7:47 a.m. Monday, a landslide occurred on a section of the No. 322 provincial-level highway near Hualei village in Guiping.

The landslide caused a collapse on a 100-meter section of highway, burying two trucks and blocking traffic.

Over 200 vehicles were stranded at the accident site.

The landslide had not stopped as of 4 p.m. Monday.

Meanwhile, multiple landslides occurred on the No. 323 provincial-level highway in Guiping, burying four vehicles and an unknown number of people.

Rescuers are trying to clear the road and reach the landslide sites.

Landslides have frequently been reported in Guangxi and neighboring Guangdong Province due to continuous heavy rains that started last week.
