China Reacts to Boston Bombings

On Wednesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed great sadness for the Chinese students who fell victim to the Boston Marathon bombings.

Officials from the Chinese Consulate General in New York confirmed on Tuesday that a Chinese national was killed in Monday's Boston Marathon blasts.

While another Chinese student was injured, but is in stable condition.

Organizers say 87 Chinese nationals, aged between 20 and 65 and including 17 women, were registered for the Boston International Marathon.

Cui Tiankai, China's new ambassador to the United States, said Beijing hopes Washington will do all it can, to help the Chinese families affected:

SOUNDBITE (CHINESE) CUI TIANKAI, Chinese Ambassador to US:

"Chinese leaders and the government are deeply concerned about Chinese nationals who were injured or killed in the recent Boston Marathon bombing. We hope the U.S. will try its best to save the injured and offer assistance for students' families. We also hope the U.S. can find out the cause as soon as possible, report it to us, and arrest the culprits..."

The blasts happened around 3 p.m. on Monday, killing at least three people and injuring more than 140.

President Xi told the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the Chinese Embassy in the U.S. and the Chinese Consulate General in New York to do everything possible to manage the aftermath.
