S. Korea: Communication channel with DPRK should reopen

South Korea’s Unification Ministry said on Wednesday that severed communication links with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea should reopen, as new South Korean President Moon Jae-in is seeking a two-track policy involving sanctions and dialogue with Pyongyang.

According to Reuters, Unification Ministry spokesperson Lee Duk-haeng made the remarks during a regular media briefing, clarifying that the ministry has considered options on the matter internally but nothing has been officially decided just yet.

Communication channels were cut by Pyongyang in February 2016, when sanctions were imposed on the DPRK due to its nuclear activity and its decision to shut down a joint industrial zone.
