The number of fully vaccinated people in Kenya is nearing the 700,000 mark as the country continues its nationwide inoculation drive.

The East African country has so far administered a total of 1,793,520 vaccines, with the number of persons who have taken both doses standing at 695,690 by Saturday.

Kenya launched its mass COVID-19 vaccination drive on March 5 after receiving some 1.2 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The vaccination drive has focused on groups considered to be at high risk, including health care workers and the elderly.

So far, Kenya has recorded 211,028 COVID-19 infections with 4,117 deaths.

Both figures are the seventh-highest recorded in Africa.
