Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday that the novel coronavirus infection has taken "downward trend" in the country, Tasnim news agency reported.

"All the provinces of Iran have witnessed a downward trend in the coronavirus infection cases recently," Rouhani was quoted as saying.

The statistics suggest that the Iranian medical society, experts and people have been "on the right track," he said, expressing gratitude to Iranian citizens for observing the health protocols and staying home which resulted in the slowing increase of COVID-19 infections across the country.

Iran's ministry of health on Wednesday reported the total number of 47,593 cases of novel coronavirus infection, of whom 3,036 have died.
