The Secretary General of the international police organization (Interpol) on Thursday condemned in the strongest terms the murder of U.S. journalist James Foley by the Islamic militant group.

"The barbaric murder of James Foley by the Islamic State group underlines the depths of its depravity as it wages its campaign of terror across Syria and Iraq," said Ronald K. Noble in a statement.

"This public slaughter of an innocent man has appalled citizens worldwide, and it highlights the ongoing plight of other innocent people across the region at the hands of bloodthirsty terrorists who know neither compassion nor mercy", added the chief of Interpol.

The Head of Interpol highlighted again the need for a multilateral response against the terror threat posed by radicalized transnational fighters travelling to conflict zones in the Middle East.

A video released on Tuesday showed that a masked militant from the Islamic State insurgent group, Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), beheaded James Foley, a freelance journalist, to avenge the ongoing U.S. air raids on the group's targets.
