Qatar's deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs on Wednesday said that Saudi Arabia suspended negotiations with Qatar over the Gulf crisis suddenly without any clear reasons.

"We were shocked by this sudden suspension, but we look forward to talks based on transparent grounds," Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said in statements to Al Jazeera after a meeting of the European Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee in Brussels.

He said Qatar wants to have a clear agreement determining commitments and responsibilities for each state.

Sheikh Mohammed pointed out that the crisis has caused a huge crack in the Gulf region that it would take time to rebuild confidence.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain and Egypt have been imposing a diplomatic and economic boycott on Qatar since June 2017 over allegations that the gas-rich Gulf country supports terrorism and interferes in their domestic affairs, which Doha has repeatedly denied.
