Brunei-born entrepreneur Soon Loo joined the ranks of famed personalities such as Bill Clinton, John F Kennedy, Jackie Chan and Andy Lau when he received the Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) of the World award.

The Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (TOYP) Awards is an annual awards programme sponsored by JCI. Nominees are selected across 10 categories, among which include: business, economic, and/or entrepreneurial accomplishment; political, legal, and/or governmental affairs; academic leadership and/or accomplishment; cultural achievement; moral and/or environmental leadership and contribution to children, world peace, and/or human rights.

The award, modeled into its current form JCI, as a prestigious yearly international award, aims to formally recognise young people who excel in their chosen fields and exemplify the best attributes of the world's young people.

Soon is an entrepreneur and venture capitalist with a global reach - spanning Singapore, Brunei, Canada, Silicon Valley, and most recently China.

Soon has mentored and coached directly over 600 individuals from all walks of life from Singapore and around the world - including a Chinese officer that subsequently fought for 50 million yuan of rural development funding to improve the quality of life of villagers.

A statement issued following his award presentation in Rio De Janeiro, Soon said, “What I am present to more than the award is that there are so much each of us can do to make the world a better place. This award goes out to all the people that care enough to make a difference to their loved ones as well as people they do not know. I wish to thank all the people that have made this amazing journey possible and I look forward to working with all of you to make more difference to the world around us.

The other nine winners of the TOYP award this year (in other categories) include Malaysia's Kian Hoe Seah, Nigeria's Adeyemi Adesokan and Dr Ola Orekunrin, Turkey's Tulin Akin and Hasibe Kiziltas, Australia's Mong Linh Do, United Kingdom's John Loughton, France's Nicolas Noguier, and Mauritius' Vedant Dharam Seeam.
