Iran registers 1,529 new COVID-19 cases, 106,220 in total

Iran on Saturday reported 1,529 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 106,220, state TV reported.

In a daily update of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, 48 new death cases were registered overnight, bringing the total number of the deaths from COVID-19 to 6,589.

Kianush Jahanpur, head of Public Relations and Information Center of the ministry, said that a total of 85,064 patients have recovered from the infectious disease.

He added that 2,696 are still in critical condition and under treatment.

So far, 573,220 lab tests for COVID-19 have been carried out in the country, he noted.

Iran announced its first cases of COVID-19 on Feb. 19.
