A shallow, 5.1-magnitude earthquake rattled the southern Philippines on Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The quake struck 4 km northeast of Wao, a town in Lanao del Sur province at 2:57 a.m. local time with a depth of 9 km, the Phivolcs said in a report.

It said the tremor, which was tectonic in origin, was felt strongest in Kadingilan and Pangantukan, Bukidnon and Cagayan de Oro City.

Phivolcs said it has not received any report of damages. However, it warned people in the region of possibilities of aftershocks.
